After a system crash, the objects must be patched again. This chapter describes the relevant procedures. The steps needed to execute the procedures are explained.
In case of a serious crash, the system cannot be rebooted and it may be necessary to restore a back-up on a different system. The procedure to be followed after a serious crash is referred to as the hard crash procedure.
The soft crash procedure is followed when the system can be rebooted and it is not necessary to restore a back-up on a different system.
5.1 The hard crash procedure and its results
The hard crash procedure begins with restoring a back-up on a different system. After restoring the back-up, the .brand6.1 file must be removed. Once the rc.start shell script is activated, the objects are patched. The software can now be used for a period of 1 week. Therefore, a request for new validation keys must be sent to Baan. Finally, the software must be validated again. The result of this procedure is a newly-validated system which can be used in the same way as before the crash.
